Apple today finally officially announced that it will hold the Apple New Products Conference on 12 September. In addition to the iPhone 15, which has already had its hardware parameters and features exposed without a doubt, it is expected that there will also be a new AirPods release, with the biggest point of interest being the charging case with USB-C interface.
It's been more than 2 years since Apple released the third generation of AirPods, and more than a year since it released the second generation of AirPods Pro. However, both of these products use Lightning connectivity and MagSafe. so naturally, if Apple iterates the AirPods, they will also have to comply with the EU's Universal Charger Directive.
In addition to the change to the USB-C port, the fourth generation of AirPods is expected to use the H2 chip used in the AirPods Pro II to enhance the entire headphone sound experience and battery life. In addition, this generation of AirPods will also support the Bluetooth 5.3 protocol, which is a continuation of the functionality of the AirPods Pro II.
From the price positioning point of view, the current AirPods Pro II and the third generation of AirPods is only ¥550 difference. So the price of the new generation of AirPods should not rise too much. It is expected to be around ¥ 1499.

The final question is whether the new AirPods' USB-C charging case ports will be universal, as the iPhone 15 series' USB-C ports have a built-in chip to limit their versatility, according to a previous leak.
Mark Gurman reports that Apple is planning to hold a product launch event at Apple Park on 12 September, which will feature not only the iPhone 15 series and Apple Watch, but also an updated version of the AirPods with a USB-C charging case.
Mark Gurman notes that Apple will introduce updated AirPods with USB-C charging ports at the event to correspond with the new iPhones, but the report doesn't provide any more details about the updated AirPods, so it's not clear if this involves the standard AirPods or the AirPods Pro.
However, both models will eventually need to be updated with a USB-C charging case in order to work with the iPhone 15 lineup, and Gurman and other sources have previously noted that the AirPods Pro will be updated with a USB-C charging case later this year, while references to the new AirPods and a new charging case were found in the hidden code of iOS 16.4 in March of this year.
It hasn't been determined if the updated AirPods will have any new features or changes beyond the USB-C charging case. On top of that, there may be other Apple products and accessories that will require a switch from Lightning to USB-C if Apple continues to sell them, such as the AirPods Max, MagSafe Battery Pack, Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad, and various adapters.
