As we get closer to the release of the iPhone 15 series, Apple's switch from Lightning to USB-C is once again confirmed. Recently, the suspected iPhone 15 series USB-C flexible PCB assembly was leaked online.
The following image, shared by leakers @lipilipsi and @John011235 on X (formerly Twitter), purportedly shows USB-C data ports attached to flexible PCB components that will be used in the standard iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
All 2023 iPhone 15 models are expected to come with USB-C instead of Lightning, and reliable sources including Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, and others say Apple will make the change.
The iPhone 15 Pro models with USB-C ports are expected to support higher-speed data transfers, while the standard iPhone 15 models will continue to use USB 2.0 speeds - the same as Lightning - giving the Pro models an advantage.
Leaker ShrimpApplePro says that iPhone 15 models will only support USB-C accessories certified through the Apple Made for iPhone (MFi) program.
MFi USB-C certification can be used to limit features like fast charging and high-speed data transfer to Apple-approved accessories.
